Upcoming Issues:
Issue #15: "Rejection"
Deadline for Submission: July 1, 2011
It happens on American Idol. It happens in 12th grade. It even happens after submitting your heartfelt poetry to your favourite magazine. It's rejection and it's something you're going to have to deal with whether you like it or not! We have all felt the sinking feeling of rejection, have had our hopes dashed and wallowed in our sorrow until our credit cards fail to authorize "one last drink." Rejection can be the impetus for acts of revenge, political movement and listening to the Smiths. Rejection is part of human growth and for this reason Memewar has dedicated its 13th issue to the phenomenon.
Compile a photo document of all the girls / boys that snubbed you in high school. Chronicle your difficulty in immigrating to a new country or explain why you were exiled from your home. Collect all the emails that "bounce back" in a month and develop a poem from the material. Write a survival guide that illustrates how one might land a career in a saturated job market.
Remember, if you haven't heard back, and it's been a while … YOU'RE REJECTED!!!

Submissions can be emailed to: submissions@memewaronline.com
Memewar is a cross-disciplinary magazine published in print and online. We accept anything in the written word, such as stories, essays, well-devised rants, poems, or even plays. We also look for anything interesting to the eye, such as art or photography. Anything too large to send by email can be arranged to be submitted by mail. While our issues are guided thematically, they still feature "off-topic" work. So send us anything, theme-related or not.
Submissions that are selected for publication will appear in both online and print versions of Memewar. Since Memewar is a free magazine, we do not offer cash payment, but artists will be compensated with a print copy of the magazine and free entrance to the release party.
Here are some general guidelines to observe and follow when submitting:
- Submissions can be sent as email attachments to submissions@memewaronline.com. Please do not paste your submission into the body of the email. Files may be Word documents (.doc), Word 2007 documents (.docx), plain text documents (.txt), rich text documents (.rtf), or PDFs. For poetry submissions, please include a rich text or PDF version of the work so we may verify formatting. If you are sending multiple submissions, please attach each submission to a separate email.
- The subject heading of your email submission should read: "Author: Title (Genre)." Please indicate which theme/issue you are submitting to (if relevant).
- The maximum length of submissions is 25 pages, double-space, Times New Roman, 12pt font; in the case of longer pieces, we reserve the right to publish shorter excerpts from the work.
- Please include a short bio written in the third person.
- All image submissions must be of high resolution (300dpi or higher). Memewar is printed in black and white (and in colour for our online PDF). The size of the magazine is 8x8 inches. If you are submitting artwork and are concerned about this, please email us and we will discuss a possible solution.
- Through submitting, you are giving Memewar permission to publish your work. It should be original and previously unpublished. Memewar reserves the right to manipulate submissions for best presentation. We will correct punctuation and typos, re-size images, and select excerpts from longer pieces if necessary.
- Memewar selects submissions twice a year. If you do not hear back from us right away, this does not mean that your piece has been rejected; responses may take up to 8 months from the submission deadline.
